Ruins of the castle Lais
The castle ruins Lais (Estonian Laiuse ordulinnus, Ordensburg Laiuse ) in Estonia is in the field of rural community Jõgeva near the village Laiuse.
History
The castle was built in the early 15th century, but probably goes back to the previous foundations of the 13th and 14th century. Written it is occupied since 1406. 1558 Russian troops the castle fell during the Livonian War in the hands. In 1559 it was destroyed, but partially restored later. In the Great Northern War, built the Swedish King Charles XII. here 1700/1701 his winter camp after the successful battle of Narva. The facility has fallen into the present to ruin.
