Lajos Áprily

Lajos Aprily ( artist name v. Lajos Jékely, born November 14, 1887 in Brassó, Transylvania; † August 6, 1967 in Budapest) was a Hungarian poet and translator.

Life

Lajos Aprily grew up in Transylvania, where he taught as a high school teacher from 1910. In 1929 he moved to Budapest, where he was also active as a teacher. After managing a boarding school in Transylvania in 1944 he was retired and settled near Visegrad. His son Zoltán Jékely (1913-1982) was also a poet and translator.

Aprily belonged to the " first Generation "of poets in the literary journal Nyugat. For his poems he used usually classical forms and versification. They are characterized by impressionistic descriptions of nature.

His collections of poetry and translations from French and Russian published between 1921 and 1965.
