Lajos Egri

Lajos Egri (* 1888 in Eger, Hungary, † 1967 in the USA) was a journalist and freelance writer. He was known primarily as a writing teacher for the theater and the movie. After emigrating to the United States he founded in the 1930s in New York, the Egri School of Writing.

Life

Lajos Egri is best known for his 1946 published book " dramatic writing", which is considered a classic of writing textbooks today. Based on EGRIS approach is to focus on the character development. In contrast to the classical view, which focuses on the development of the plot structures, Egri saw in the character development of the core of the writing process. This approach has caught on and is now represented by many teachers of creative writing. The techniques shown were used for writing short stories, novels and screenplays in particular.
