LAK Genesis 2

The Genesis 2 is a single-seat glider for the FAI standard class of Lithuanian producer Sportinė Aviacija. Particularly noticeable on the aircraft is the greatly shortened tail, and the interpretation gives the impression of a tailless aircraft.

History

The Genesis 2 is the serial version of the prototype Genesis 1, which was constructed by the U.S. design team " Genesis Group" financial backer Jerry Mercer. Main designers were Jim Marske (aircraft) and John Ronce ( airfoil ). When looking for a manufacturer for the prototype proved successful in Sportinė Aviacija in Lithuania. The Genesis 1 had its maiden flight in 1993.

For the series production of the prototype in various points was significantly changed. The production aircraft with these changes was called " Genesis 2" and had its first flight in 1997. Due to economic problems broke the relationship between the American design team and the manufacturer, which is why the production to 27 aircraft has been set.

Construction

The main objective in the design of the genesis was a significant reduction of the surfaces of the fuselage and tail as compared to conventional designs, in order to minimize the flow resistance. This was achieved by generating a positive pitching moment, the airfoil itself like a flying wing. The Genesis has in addition a small pendulum rudder on the vertical stabilizer, this is, however, mainly for trimming and not to increase the longitudinal stability.

For the mass production of carbon fiber wing spars were used by pultrusion. This technique was then used for further LAK aircraft. The nose wheel was just like the main gear made retractable for series production and reduces the Flügelschränkung.
