Lake Barombi Koto

Maar

The Barombi Koto is a small, shallow crater in the Sud-Ouest region of Cameroon. It is located about 30 km northeast of the Cameroon mountain about 100 meters above sea level. The circular lake has two small tributaries that dry up in the dry season, the Nsuia Tung and Tung Nsuria. Birds that live on the banks of the lake and feed primarily or partly of fish are: Little Grebe ( Tachybaptus ruficollis ), Long-tailed Cormorant (Phalacrocorax africanus), African Darter (Anhinga rufa), Purple Heron (Ardea purpurea), Great Egret (Ardea alba), Hagedasch ( Bostrychia hagedash ), Black Kite (Milvus migrans), Pied Kingfisher ( Ceryle rudis ), giant Kingfisher ( Megaceryle maxima), Schillereisvogel (Alcedo quadribrachys ), Malachite Kingfisher (Alcedo cristata ) and the Palm Vulture ( Gypohierax angolensis ), which not only Palm fruit, but every now and then also eats fish.
