Lake Barrington (Tasmania)

The Lake Barrington is a reservoir in the north of the Australian state of Tasmania.

The 20- km long reservoir is 40 km south of Devonport along the middle reaches of the River Forth.

Construction

The dam was built in 1969 to create a reservoir for the Devils Gate Power Station. On the shore of the lake, a 183 -hectare area was declared as a national nature reserve.

Rowing

The Lake Barrington is a world-class rowing course. There, the World Rowing Championships 1990, held the annual head-of - River Championships Tasmanian schools and various Australian Rowing Championships. The latter were 1984, 1987, 1990, 1994, 1997, 2003, 2006 and 2009 held here. The next such competition is planned for 2014.
