Lake Bogoria
Soda lake, flamingos, hot springs
The Lake Bogoria ( Lake Bogoria, Lake Hannington earlier ) is a strongly alkaline lake in the eastern arm of the East African Rift. The lake is known for its rich bird life, numerous geysers and hot springs, especially on the west bank.
Geography
The lake is in the eastern part of the East African grave breach ( Great Rift Valley). He is, together with the northern Baringo in Baringo - Bogoria Basin. The Bogoriasees is located in a semi- trench, which is bounded on the east by a deportation and the associated morphological scarp ( Siracho Escarpment ). The catchment area of the lake has a size of 700 km2
The lake lies entirely in the State of Kenya in Baringo District in Rift Valley Province, about 285 km north- northwest of the capital Nairobi.
Flora and Fauna
The Lake Bogoria is the goal of many day-trippers, not least because of the diverse flora and fauna. For the wildlife on the lake include zebras, gazelles, impalas, dik and kudu. The lake is home to many flamingos, fish eagles and pelicans.
Environment
The Lake Bogoria lies entirely in the Bogoria National Reserve.
