Lake City is a small town, mostly in Wabasha County and to a lesser extent in Goodhue County. Both counties are located in the southeast of the U.S. state of Minnesota on the Mississippi River. In 2010, Lake City had 5,063 inhabitants.

Geography

Lake City is located at 44 ° 26'44 " north latitude and 92 ° 16'14 " west longitude. The city covers an area of 11.1 km ² which 11.0 km ² land and 0.1 km ² water surface spread.

Lake City is located on the western shore of Lake Pepin, a natural widening of the Mississippi River, which forms the border with the state of Wisconsin. History

A native of Belgium French missionary Louis Hennepin traveled through in 1680 in the area around Lake Pepin.

The first known white settler was Jacob Boody in 1853. A settlement was established in 1855. The officials of the town were held in 1864 by the state government of Minnesota authorized to create a port and a center for the grain trade, as the Lake Pepin before Lake City was deep enough for that. The volume of trade grew rapidly in the following years, reaching $ 1.5 million in 1866.
