Lake County, California
Lake County is a county located in the state of California, United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Lakeport.
History
Lake County was formed in 1861 from parts of Napa County. The name of the county comes from the large number of lakes in the region, the most famous of them is Clear Lake.

According to the census of 2000, there were 58 309 people in Lake County. There were 23 974 households, and 15,367 families. The population density was 18 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 86.25 % White, 2.11 % African American, 3.04 % Native American, 0.83 % Asian, 0.16 % Pacific Islander residents from the and 4.11% from other races groups; 3.50% were descended from two or more races. 11.39% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 23 974 households out of which 26.60% have children under the age of 18 living with them. 47.70 % were married couples living together, 11.30% had a female householder with no husband. 35.90% were non-families. 29.00% of all households and 13.40% had someone living alone at the age of 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.39 and the average family size was 2.92.
Based on the county the population was spread out with 24.10 % under the age of 18, 6.00 % from 18 to 24, 23.60% from 25 to 44 years, 26.80 % between 45 and 64 years and 19.50% were 65 years old or older. The average age was 43 years. For every 100 females there were 97.60 males, 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.70 males.
The median income for a household was $ 29,627, and the median income for a family was $ 35,818. Males have a median income of $ 35,771, women $ 24,026. The per capita income was $ 16,825. 17.60 % percent of the population and 12.90% of families are below the poverty line. 22.80% of those under age 18 and 7.30 % were 65 years or older.
