Lake County (Michigan)

Lake County is a county located in the state of Michigan in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Baldwin.

Geography

The County is located in the central northwestern part of the Lower Peninsula of Michigan, is in the west about 45 km from Lake Michigan, one of the five Great Lakes, away and has an area of ​​1488 square kilometers, of which 19 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Wexford County, Osceola County, Newaygo County, Mason County and Manistee County.

History

Lake County was formed in 1840 from parts of Mackinac County. Until 1843 it was called Aischum County. It was named in the field after the occurrence of many small lakes.
