Lake County (Tennessee)

The Lake County is a county located in the U.S. state of Tennessee. In 2010, the County had 7832 inhabitants and a population density of 18.5 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Tiptonville.

Geography

The County is located in the northwest corner of Tennessee, bordered on the west separated by the Mississippi River in Missouri and north to Kentucky. It has an area of 502 square kilometers, of which 79 square kilometers are water surface. At the Lake County border Nachbarcountys following:

History

The Lake County was formed on June 24, 1870 from parts of Obion County. It was named after the Reelfoot Lake, a lake in the area.

Demographic data

According to the census in 2010 lived in Lake County 7832 people in 2300 households. The population density was 18.5 inhabitants per square kilometer. In the 2,300 households lived statistically 2.44 per person.

The racial the population was composed of 70.0 percent white, 28.1 percent African American, 0.4 percent Native American, 0.2 percent Asian and other ethnic groups; 1.3 percent were descended from two or more races.
