Lake Danao National Park

The Danao Lake is a lake on the island of Leyte in the Philippines. It is located about 10 km northeast of Ormoc City in Leyte province. The lake covers an area of ​​approximately 1.97 km ² at the foot of Mount Danao at an altitude of 640 meters above sea level.

Flora and Fauna

The green alga Cladophora sp is often in the lake. One of the dominant macrophytes include Panicum hemitomon and Hydrilla sp. The riparian vegetation is determined by a dense rain forest, which is with clearings with a grass vegetation, of which the silver hair grass ( Imperata cylindrica ) is dominant, interspersed.

The average 82 -meter-deep lake has a big fish stock with the following fish: giurus the milkfish ( Chanos chanos ), predatory catfish ( Clarias sp.), Tilapia, carp (Cyprinus carpio ) and the Glossogobius. The lake also has a large inventory of various water birds.

National park

Around the lake in 1965 of the 15 sq km Lake Danao National Park established. This was on 3 February 1998, expanded to 21.93 km ², by the NIPAS Act of 1992 in the Philippine program was added to protect biodiversity by the Lake Danao Natural Park in the appendix of the law.
