Lake Euramoo

Maar

The Lake Euramoo is a maar in northern Queensland, Australia. The Maar in Atherton Tablelands originated about 10,000 years ago as the red-hot magma came into contact with groundwater and caused an explosion. The resulting crater was filled later with rain water.

Description of the Lake

The crystal clear lake is not the typical round shape of the crater lakes, but a dumbbell. This unusual shape was created by the overlap of two craters that may have arisen at the same time.

The area around the lake is determined by the timber industry, having penetrated into the 1880s, European settlers to the area. The vegetation on the lake consists of subalpine rainforest or was planted with original rain forest plants and the Guinea - araucaria (Araucaria cunninghamii ) and exotic conifers.

The maar is located in Danbulla National Park, a park in the Wet Tropics of Queensland, registered in the list of UNESCO World Heritage.
