Lake Fryxell

Endorheischer lake

The Fryxellsee (English Lake Fryxell ) is a four and a half kilometer long lake meromiktischer between Canada and the Commonwealth Glacier in Victoria Land to the east of the Antarctic continent. It is located in the Taylor Valley of the Antarctic dry valleys. The Fryxellsee was discovered and mapped by the Terra Nova Expedition ( 1910-1913 ) under Sir Robert Falcon Scott, and in 1957 after Fritiof M. Fryxell ( 1900-1986 ), a Glazialgeologen of Augustana College in Illinois (USA ), named.

The lake is home to as many other Antarctic lakes, a large number of prokaryotic organisms.
