Lake Hamana

The Lake Hamana (Japanese浜 名 湖, Hamana -ko ) is a lake near Hamamatsu Shizuoka Prefecture in western Japan.

In ancient times the Lake Hamana was a " further freshwater lake " (远 淡 海, Toho tsu Afumi ) called and gave the province Tōtōmi her name, as opposed to the "near freshwater lake " Lake Biwa. During an earthquake in 1498 the sandbar between the lake and the Pacific has been broken, so that salt water penetrated. Today he is famous for eels, and also for Chinese soft-shelled turtles, oysters, shrimp and nori.

Developed for tourism are the island Benten -jima and the spa Kanzanji Onsen.

The lake has a surface area of ​​65 km ², with a maximum water depth of 13.1 m.
