Lake Havasu City is a city in Mohave County in the U.S. state of Arizona, United States, with 55 338 inhabitants ( July 2005), and is located at the Lake Havasu dammed Colorado River. Through the city runs the Arizona State Route 95

The development of Lake Havasu City began as an air force recreation camp during the Second World War. Meanwhile, the city has 1,000 business establishments, two private newspapers and a university.

Displacement of the London Bridge

A special attraction is the leading branch of the river through an artificial partial reconstruction of the London Bridge. Built in London 1831 bridge could no longer cope with the ever increasing traffic over the Thames. Therefore, the British government decided that a bridge to sell. Robert McCulloch, Founder of lying in the middle of the Arizona desert town of Lake Havasu and CEO of McCulloch Oil Corporation, the bridge auctioned for 2.46 million U.S. dollars. According to an urban legend McCulloch took during the auction incorrectly, not the London Bridge, but for the much more famous Tower Bridge has to offer.

The bridge was dismantled and carefully numbered each stone disguise. All parts were brought by sea to the more than 15,000 kilometers from London away Long Beach in California and transported from there by truck to Lake Havasu City. Reconstruction began on September 23, 1968 a ceremony in London's former mayor laid the foundation. On October 10, 1971, the bridge, a reinforced concrete structure with exterior cladding original material could be (re) opened.
