Lake Keret

The Keret (Russian Кереть, Керет, Керетьозеро, Куккуреозеро, karel. Kierettijärvi ) is a lake in the Republic of Karelia in Russia.

The Keret is drained by the river of the same Keret to the White sea. The shoreline is heavily cut. The water surface of Keret is 223 km ². Including islands, there are about 130 pieces, the total area is 275 km ². The lake is at 91 m height. Its maximum depth is 4-5 m. The southern part of the lake is called Pirtosero. To the north is the Teilsee Plotitschnoje. The largest island is Witschany.

Between the beginning of November and the end of May the lake is frozen. The water temperatures in summer reach values ​​20-21 ° C.

The lake is located in a hilly landscape, in which in some places granite comes to light. Along its eastern shore, the highway E 105 runs between Saint Petersburg and Murmansk.

The Keret is rich in fish. There are, inter alia, following species of fish: perch, pike, whitefish and Rutilus.
