Lake Leake, Tasmania

The Lake Leake is an artificial lake in the east of the Australian state of Tasmania. The small village on its west bank of the same name.

The lake covers an area of 6.8 km ² and has a water content of 22.076 million m³.

The lake is fed from the Snowy River, which enters at its northern end. The water flows from the Elizabeth River on the east bank. The sea water has an electric conductivity of 56 ĩS / cm.

Fishing

The lake is used for recreational fishing. You start there, brook trout, brown trout and rainbow trout.

History

The artificial lake was by Charles Henry Leake, a member of the Tasmanian Legislative Council (upper house ), named. It was created after a long debate. The 5 -meter-high dam was completed in 1884. Initially the Lake Leake had a volume of 19.9 million m³ and a surface area of 6 km ². 1971 the outlet was raised by 18 cm in order to increase the storage space. The water used for pisciculture and is used for agricultural irrigation. The lake is always kept at least half full.
