Lake Leśnia

The Marklissa Dam ( also Queistalsperre, Polish Zapora Leśiańska or Jezioro Lesnianskie ) was built from 1901 to 1907 above Lauban ( Luban ) and east of Marklissa ( Leśna ) in Silesia in what is now the Polish part of Upper Lusatia to flood control and hydropower generation.

Marklissa was often threatened by the construction of the dam from flooding.

The jammed river is the Queis ( Kwisa ). The commissioning of the dam was on 15 July 1905.

The power plant

According to the chart at the dam, there are six turbines with a total capacity of 2.61 MW ( five times 515 plus one 35 kW). The turbines are still the original and were delivered in 1907 by the JM Voith. The generators came from the Siemens -Schuckert -Werke in Berlin.

The dam

The 45 m high and was founded in gneiss dam of masonry is a typical wall after Intze principle. Were installed 150,000 bags of cement, 20,000 cubic meters of sand, 2400 m³ lime, 460 tons of steel. Also 32 tons of dynamite were used. Most construction workers came from Italy and the Tyrol. The reservoir was lowered in May 2003 due to renovation work on the dam. The dam was completely reconstructed during this period. The width of the wall was thereby possibly increased from 6 m to 8 m.

Environment

The traffic jam is below the ruins Neidenburg. Near the castle is Czocha.
