Lake Louise is a census -designated place (CDP ) in Matanuska- Susitna Borough in Alaska in the United States. The area is located north north-west of the Glenn Highway from Glennallen on the western boundary of the Matanuska- Susitna Borough.

History

Lake Louise is located on the western corner of the historical territory of the Copper River Ahtna Athabaskan -. The Ahtnas were semi- nomads, who negotiated with the Indian tribe of the Cook Inlet Dena'ina with furs. During the 1940s, the area was settled. Today, the area serves as a public recreation area ( State Recreation Area ), which is known for boating and fishing. Almost 85 % of all homes are occupied only in seasons. Students are mostly taught at home.

Economy

Lake Louise is known for its trout. In the winter months, ice fishing is operated. Several lodges offer year-round accommodation. Most of them work only in the seasonal periods or are retired. For the air traffic at the south end of Lake Louise State airstrip available. There are also two private airstrips. The area is accessible via the Glenn Highway and the Lake Louise Road.

Demography

At the time of the census in 2000 ( U.S. Census 2000) Lake Louise CDP had 88 inhabitants on a land area of 124 km ². The average age was 47 years ( national U.S. average: 35.3 years ). The per capita income ( per capita income engl. ) amounted to U.S. $ 11,057 ( U.S. National Average: U.S. $ 21,587 ). 56.7% of residents were with their income below the poverty line ( national U.S. average: 12.4% ) .13,6 % of the inhabitants are of German descent, and about 10.2 % are descended from the original inhabitants of Alaska.
