Lake Lovozero

The Lake Lovozero (Russian Ловозеро, Kildinsamisch: уяввьр, Finnish Luujärvi, Skoltsamisch: Luujäu'rr, Northern Sami: Lujávri ) is located on the Kola Peninsula in the Murmansk Oblast (Russia). His drain northwards to the Barents Sea, the river Woronja. The area is about 200 sq km, the average depth 5.7 m, maximum depth 35 m. Annual fluctuations in the water level to be below 1 m. The average residence time of the water in the lake is 10 months. The lake is heavily divided by peninsulas and islands. The lake is east of the Lovozero Tundra.

In 1970, two hydroelectric power plants on the Woronja at Serebrjansk, about 100 km downstream of the lake built. The dam at the hydroelectric power plant dams on the Woronja to a reservoir, the water level has the same as the Lovozero Lake, so that these two waters are merged into one.
