Lake Mégantic

The Lac Mégantic [ ˌ lakmegɑtik ] is a lake in the Canadian province of Québec.

It is located south of Quebec City, located in the eastern Estrie, 6 km from the border with the United States.

The town of Lac- Mégantic is located at the north end, at the outlet where the Rivière Chaudière springs. The villages of Marston and Piopolis lie on the western shore. At the top, the south end of the lake is a 4.7 km ² large swamp. The average outflow from the lake is 16.9 m³ / s

Prior to the construction of roads, the lake served as a link between Quebec and Maine. 1775 during the American Revolutionary War, 600 Americans have used under the direction of Colonel Benedict Arnold the lake on its way from Maine to Quebec City for their attempted invasion of Canada.
