Lake Pape

The Pape Lake is a lake in Latvia. It is located 15 km south of Liepaja. Around the lake is a nature reserve Pape.

Lake and surroundings

In the nature reserve Pape life-sized herds of wild Konik horses, bison and Heck cattle, the latter is a reflection of the growing extinct aurochs. Since the nature reserve human intervention is not desirable and should not be influenced the behavior of the animals, a very well camouflaged tower were built in the park, which is used as bird observation post. The area itself, though may not be driven by car to explore on foot, bike or in the boat but it is permissible.

To make it accessible to the Lake Pape and its surroundings for visitors, hikers and nature lovers, were applied over a total length of 30 kilometers, nature trails around the lake.

Culture

Also in terms of culture is done to the Lake Pape much. Hikers and cyclists can use the network of paths to visit the area. Be moderated visitors to individual, Featured stations, which are located at regular intervals along the hiking paths. The lake self can be explored. Especially popular are here canoeing on the Lake Pape offered in the summer. Also, swimming and fishing is allowed in some places.

Also the tower for bird watching, as well as lying around floodplains, dunes, pine or spruce trees and a lighthouse are popular destinations.
