BW

The Danau Poso ( German: Lake Poso ) in Sulawesi Tengah is the third largest lake in Indonesia.

Geography

The 32,000 -acre lake is located at 600 meters above sea level and is on average 450 meters deep. At the north end of the lake, the city Tentena is the Poso River starts its run to the coast. Other cities on the lake are Taipa in the west and in the south Pendolo.

Flora and Fauna

The lake is known for its wild orchids that can be admired in Taman Anggrek Bancea. Endemic fishes of the lake are the rice fish Oryzias nebulosus, Oryzias nigrimas and Oryzias orthognathus that. Four kinds of rice genus of fish Adrianichthys, including the Entenschnabelkärpfling and stretched Poso mosquito fish, the Halfbeak Nomorhamphus celebensis and the goby Mugilogobius sarasinorum The Poso Bungu goby seems extinct, as it has been demonstrated most recently in 1987. Possible reasons for their disappearance are the pollution of Lake Poso and the importation of foreign fish species. Remarkably, the sponge genus Pachydictyum is found only in Lake Poso. It is not closely related to the freshwater sponges ( Spongillidae ) and probably comes from living in the sea ancestors.

Culture

Late August, the Danau Poso Festival is performed with traditional sports, singing and dance performances in Tentena every year.
