Lake Sumner

The Lake Sumner ( māori Hokakura ) is a lake about 100 km north-west of Christchurch. It is located in Lake Sumner Forest Park in the Hurunui District of the Canterbury region on the South Island of New Zealand. The lake located in an uninhabited area is drained by the Hurunui River.

In the vicinity there are other smaller lakes ( Loch Katrine, Lake Sheppard, Lake Taylor, Mason Lake and Lake Marion ).

The area around the lake is used for hunting, hiking, trout fishing, white- water kayaking and mountain biking. Several huts of the Department of Conservation in the region are available for overnight stays available. Because of its remote location and poor road access but the area is less crowded.
