The Lake Tegel is located in Berlin Tegel district of the district Reinigendorf. With 450 hectares ( almost 54 acres including islands ) he is after Müggelsee the second largest lake in the city and forms a five-kilometer branched bulge of the Havel and is shown with waterways of class IV. He belongs legally to federal waterway Havel - Oder Waterway ( HOW). It is primarily used by boaters and passenger shipping. Responsible for managing the Water and Shipping Authority Berlin.

The word " Tegel " is derived from a Slavic root word meaning " appendage ." And this is precisely the Tegeler See: he is an appendage of the Havel.
