Lakmos ( Peristeri Summit )

The Lakmos (Greek Λάκμος, also Peristeri Περιστέρι, Lakmon Λάκμων, Lakmonas Λάκμωνας ) is a 2295 m high mountain massif in the hills of southern Pindos Mountains. It is located east of Ioannina, Metsovo and south of the north-west of Kalambaka in the Regional District of Ioannina Epirus region.

The name Peristeri is also used for the highest peak of Lakmos. Alternatively, this peak is also called Tsoukarela. Other high points of the Lakmos are Asprovrissi ( 2,040 m), Kritharia (1,640 m), Lakomata ( 2,020 m), Pyramidia ( 2,040 m), Salatoura ( 2,125 m), Koukies ( 1,717 m), Soutomio ( 2,047 m), Kalogiros ( 2,106 m) and Tsouma Plastari ( 2,188 m), which also marks the transition into the south to Athamanon or Tzoumerka massif.

The Lakmos is surrounded on three sides by rivers, which originate partly from the Lakmos massif. In the west the Lakmos massif bounded the valley of Arachthos, in the north is the Metsovitikos, which opens into the Arachthos in the northwest of Lakmos. To the east of the Achelous, which in about 2000 meters above sea level also rises on the eastern flank of the Lakmos runs. In the south of Kalaritikos River, which joins the creek to the river Monodendri Melissourgiotikos and flows to the southeast runs. The Lakmos also forms the watershed between the Arachthos the west and the Achelous in the east.

The Lakmos massif is worth protecting habitat after NATURA2000 program. The area of ​​the reserve covers 20,020 hectares with an average height of 1,700 m above sea level. In Lakmos massif also bears are located.
