Lambda Istanbul

Lambda Istanbul is an association of homosexual and bisexual men and women, transvestites and transsexuals in Turkey.

The organization was founded by own account in 1993 as the Governor of Istanbul had forbid the Christopher Street Day. The group, which had been founded under the name Gökkuşağı (Rainbow), was then called Lambda Istanbul. Since this year Lamda Istanbul organizes various annual activities under the name of "honor week " ( Onur Haftası ). In Istanbul, the Organization held in this context 2003, the first major demonstration of homosexuals. Lambda Istanbul would otherwise lead information sessions and conferences on LGBT issues by, runs a cultural center and a library. A short-term ban on interest group in May 2008 triggered a large wave of protests with supporters throughout Europe and was lifted by the Supreme Court of Appeals of Turkey.

The motto of Lambda Istanbul is " Ne ne yanlış de yalnızsınız ", which means something like " You are neither wrong nor alone " means.

Among the leading members belonged Ebru Soykan, who was murdered in 2009.
