Lamberto Gardelli

Lamberto Gardelli ( born November 8, 1915 in Venice, † July 17, 1998 in Munich ) was an Italian conductor.

Life

Gardelli studied with Amilcare Zanella and Adriano Ariani. He then moved to the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome, where he among other things, with Goffredo Petrassi and Alessandro Bustini completing his studies.

Lamberto Gardelli began working as an assistant of Tullio Serafin, conducting during this time various Italian orchestra. As an opera conductor, he made ​​his debut in Rome in 1944 with Verdi's La Traviata. From 1946 to 1955 he was employed at the Stockholm Opera permanent conductor. Then he headed from 1955 to 1961 the Symphony Orchestra of Danish Radio, then until 1965 the Budapest Opera House. After years of changing activities, he managed from 1978 to 1984 and the Berne Opera from 1982 to 1985, the Munich Radio Orchestra. He then took over the management of the Danish Radio Symphony Orchestra for a second time from 1986 to 1989.

Lamberto Gardelli was a welcome guest conductor also at the Met and at the Glyndebourne Festival, especially in the 1960s. Legendary are his many opera recordings on vinyl, where he was especially committed to lesser-known works of the Italian opera repertoire. He was less well known as a concert conductor, wherein at least one so -known work such as Gottfried von Einem was premiered 4.Sinfonie from him. His own operas and orchestral works acquired no continuing importance to the repertoire.
