Lambesc

Lambesc is a commune with 9250 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Bouches -du -Rhône in the Provence- Alpes- Côte d' Azur.

Geography

Lambesc located 20 kilometers north- west of Aix -en- Provence. The municipality is part of the Communauté d' agglomération du Pays d' Aix.

History

In 814, the town was first mentioned as Lambisco. In the Middle Ages arose in the hills a castle, the village was surrounded by ramparts. Until 1789 the place was owned by several noble families. When the Count of Lorraine in 1453 the town acquired, the current coat of arms was introduced with the Cross of Lorraine. 1807, until then independent municipality SAEs was incorporated into Lambesc. 1909, the town was destroyed by an earthquake partially. Many people lost their lives. 1944 exploded in the station of Lambesc a German train with ammunition, which again destroyed many houses.

Economy and infrastructure

The municipality is situated on the N7 which links them to Avignon and Aix -en- Provence, and which also leads to the A7. About the D15, the community is also connected to Salon- de -Provence.
