Lamborghini Jarama

The Lamborghini Jarama was the successor of the Lamborghini Islero and thus the third model of a GT 2 2 sports car from Lamborghini, whose story began with the 350 GT.

History

The mold of the Jarama was designed by Bertone, Marcello Gandini of which had already been responsible for the Miura and later designed the shape of the Countach. Special features were the rear spoiler on the roof as well as the semi- covert " sleep eyes " headlights, their covers could be moved electrically to the bottom. The body was built by Marazzi and provided with the same V 12, which was also used in the four-seat Espada.

For the Jarama the shortened chassis of the Espada was used, it is nevertheless difficult. The short wheelbase made ​​the Jarama very maneuverable, the driving characteristics were outstanding for that time and are still above average, top speed 250 km / h, from 0 to 100 km / h in 6.9 seconds. The Jarama offered two people a lot of space in a luxurious interior and a large trunk for a lot of luggage. The vehicle had a manual transmission, but a single vehicle with automatic transmission was produced.

The Jarama was the last front-engined Lamborghini and was considered the favorite car Ferruccio Lamborghini.

After only 177 cars built, the model was changed in 1972 in some detail and built further than Jarama S. The changes mainly related to the shortcomings of the first model: a power steering system for added comfort, air inlets and outlets in the engine compartment for better cooling, another dashboard replaced the design-oriented and leading to confusion so-called " piano keyboard ", a different exhaust system increased the engine power by 15 hp. The vehicle also received new wheels without central locking. After 155 copies, the production was discontinued in 1976.

Special models

Jarama Sports

A single piece was the so-called Jarama Sport, built by Bob Wallace. Its 3.9 -liter V12 engine developed 380 hp. This resulted in a top speed of 270 km / h and acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h in about 5 seconds. As a fully race -grade example Bob Wallace modified a Jarama with heavily modified aluminum body, the renounced among other pop-up headlights and plastic washers, Miura rims and a reduced interior had. The orange and black painted car never took part in the race.
