Lamesa is a city in Texas in the United States of America. The city is the county seat of Dawson County.

Geography

Lamesa is located south of Lubbock on the Llano Estacado.

History

Already 17,000 years ago the area was roamed by Native Americans.

The actual city's history begins in July 1903, when 160 acres of land were carved out of a ranch. The name derives from the Spanish Mesa, what means tableland and the plateau pretty well describes at this point. Of the possible versions of La Mesa and Lamesa the latter was chosen. A little later, the post was moved from the nearby Chicago to Lamesa and 1905 the city was also the seat of the county. The residents of Chicago then was offered by Lamesa and performed within two days of the move.

In 1905 there was the first telegraph connection, 1910 connection to the railway network by the " Santa Fe Railway Company," and in 1916 electricity was introduced.
