Lamezia Terme

Lamezia Terme is a town in the Calabria region in Italy with 70 261 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012). The city is the seat of the diocese of Lamezia Terme.

Location

Lamezia Terme is located near the Tyrrhenian coast. Jobs are in the service sector and in agriculture. The city was founded by the merger of the then independent municipalities Nicastro, Eufemia Lamezia Sambiase and 1968.

Traffic

Lamezia Terme Lamezia Terme International Airport has the ( SUF). The importance of the airport is in the development of the region for the tourist market. In the year 1998 672.000 passengers were handled, in 2007 that number increased to 1,458,000. Lamezia Terme is located in the European road E 45 and E 848

The main railway station of Lamezia is located in the district of Santa Eufemia on the route from Rome to Reggio Calabria. The districts Sambiase and Nicastro are connected to the central station on the railway line to Catanzaro Lido. On weekends, especially on Sundays the connections are sparse and often do fall out or be replaced by buses ( rail replacement bus service ). From the airport to three kilometers away Central Railway at regular intervals, a bus (journey time 5 minutes, 1 € ). Furthermore, a shuttle bus from the bus station in Crotone on Catanzaro goes to Lamezia Airport (5.80 € ).

Attractions

In the district of Nicastro, there is a remarkable cathedral and a ruined castle ( Castello Norman- Swabian Castle ). In the district Sambiase thermal springs can be found. These were already known to the Romans.
