Laminated veneer lumber

A laminated veneer lumber (FSH; LVL also derived from laminated veneer lumber ) is a wood-based material, which is used in timber construction. The laminated veneer lumber consists of about 3 mm thick peeled veneers of softwood. It is used for the production of beams and beams, as well as plates and washers ( flat surface structures). The bonding of the veneer layers takes place with phenolic resin.

Dimensions

Veneers all longitudinally oriented ( carrier )

  • 75 mm ≤ thickness ≤ 200 mm
  • 21 mm ≤ width ≤ 75 mm
  • Length ≤ 23,000 mm

Veneers in the longitudinal direction with additional Absperrlagen ( plates)

  • 21 mm ≤ thickness ≤ 69 mm
  • Width ≤ 2500 mm
  • Length ≤ 23,000 mm

Plate types

Applications

The laminated veneer lumber must be suitable for the climatic conditions in any particular application. The assignment of service classes correlated to the scope. In connection with the use of the classes Gefährungsklassen must be observed!

Treatment with an officially approved wood preservative is required for use in Class 3.

The use in living areas ( Class 1) should be avoided because of the wood preservative used.

Technical and structural-physical characteristics

Identification

The following information must be printed on the product, delivery or accompanying document:

  • Name or mark of the manufacturer
  • Standard: DIN EN 14279
  • Type designation ( for example, LVL / 3)
  • Nominal thickness in mm
  • Main axis
  • Formaldehyde emission class

General building approval

The laminated veneer lumber must be marked with the mark of conformity (CE mark ) since 1 April 2004. A distinction is made in the labeling by supporting and non-bearing use.

In addition to the CE mark laminated veneer lumber must be marked with a mark of conformity.

Timber

The use of laminated veneer lumber required for proof of usability by national technical approval. The approval of the board structure, veneer thickness, as well as the characteristic strength, the stiffness and the Rohdichtekennwert must be defined. When used in timber construction (according to DIN 1052 ) DIN V 20000-1 must be observed.

In addition to use as a bar or disc to actual laminated veneer lumber as support reinforcement in the support beams in the renovation.

Transport and storage

It must be ensured that the board moisture content does not increase permitted by, for example, precipitation or soil moisture. Proper covered storage is imperative.
