The river has a total length of 147 km, and the basin covers an area of 2190 km ². At the mouth of the river carries an average water volume of 11.3 m³ / s, the source of the river is located near the ridge Kapylskaja hrada, which is located in the south of Belarusian ridge.

It flows through the historical landscape Polesia in from the village Staroselie completely ( and upstream thereof only in sections ) straightened and canalised river bed. The width of the river is in the upper reaches 4-8 meters, at the mouth it is up to 20 meters wide. The surrounding floodplains have a width of 600 to 1000 meters. The shores are mostly peaty, partly sandy and there are some places from a 1 to 2 meter wide strip of sandy clay.

The valley of the river has a width of 1 to 1.5 km, is covered by mixed forests and permeated by swamps. A network of small streams and canals runs through the area.

At the headwaters of the river, the city is Kletsk ( weißruss. Клецк ), in Prypjaz National Park opens the Lan in the Pripyat.
