Lancaster is a city in Dallas County in the U.S. state of Texas in the United States.

Geography

The city in the central northeast Texas at the intersection of Highway 342 to the Pleasant Run Road, 22 km south of Dallas and has a total area of 75.9 km ² without significant water surface.

History

Named was the place to Lancaster in Kentucky, the birthplace of Abram Bledsoe, founder of the settlement.

Demographic data

According to the census of 2000, there were 25 894 people in 9,182 households and 6,895 families. The population density was 341.3 inhabitants per km ². The racial the population was composed of 37.63 % White, 53.00 % African American, 0.49 % Native American, 0.39 % Asian, 0.05% Pacific Islander residents from the and 6.58 % from other ethnic groups. Approximately 1.85% were of mixed descent, and 11.59 % of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

Of the 9,182 households, 40.6 % had children under the age of 18 living with them. 49.4 % were married couples living together. 20.8% were single mothers and 24.9 % were non-families. 21.3 % of all households were single-person households and 6.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.77 and the average family size amounted to 3.22.

30.5% of the population were under 18 years old, 8.6% from 18 to 24, 32.3% 25-44, 19.6% from 45 to 64, and 9.0 % who were 65 years or older. The average age was 32 years. For every 100 females of all ages were 85.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, 80.9 males.

The median income for a household was $ 43,773, and the median income for a family $ 48,498. Males have a median income of $ 33,406 versus $ 30,653 for females.
