Geography

History

Mayor GM Price, a ground speculator, the city laid out in 1837. He was convinced the place to call Lancaster by a relative of Lancaster in Pennsylvania. At the Pleasant Ridge one of the first African- American communities in Wisconsin arose. It was founded in 1849 by a shepherd family. Lancaster was long the residence of Nelson Dewey, the first governor of Wisconsin.
