Lance Mackey

Lance Mackey ( b. 1970 in Wasilla, Alaska ) is an American dog sled athletes.

Career

He is a multiple winner of the two most important and toughest races in the sport - the Iditarod and the Yukon Quest and the only musher both the 1000 miles race won in the same year (2007) - an accomplishment he could repeat in 2008. He is also the only musher of both races to win in row 4 times, the Yukon Quest 2005 to 2008, the Iditarod 2007-2010. In 2010 he was, according to Martin Buser in 2002, the second party of the Iditarod in less than 9 days ended, namely in 8 days 23 hours 59 minutes and 9 seconds.

Lance Mackey is the son of Dick Mackey, one of the founders of the Iditarod race, and the half brother of Rick Mackey. All three won their first Iditarod in their respective sixth participation and the # 13 Dick 1978, Rick in 1983 and Lance 2007.

Private

Mackey was married and has four children. He lives in Fairbanks, Alaska, where he runs a sled dog kennel.
