Lance Tingay

Lance Tingay ( born July 15, 1915 in Ilford, Essex, † March 10, 1990 Wimbledon ( London) ) was a British sports journalist.

Life

Tingay reported for the first time in 1932 by the Wimbledon Championships. In 1952, he followed John Olliff as tennis correspondent of the Daily Telegraph after which he remained until his retirement in 1980. Prior to the introduction of the computer world rankings in the 1970s by the ATP and WTA his published annual rankings were recognized worldwide and formed the basis for the preparation of seedings at major tournaments.

In 1982, his induction into the International Tennis Hall of Fame. He died in 1990 at the age of 74 years.
