Company History

The French company Lancôme was founded in 1935 by Armand Petitjean. The company name led Petitjean on the historic Château de Lancosme, which is south of Paris, located near Vendoeuvres. As a corporate logo he chose a stylized rose that represents the brand to this day. Already in the founding year Petitjean launched five perfumes for women, which later several more followed. The bottles were designed by the French artist Georges Delhomme and are now considered collectors items.

In 1936, Lancôme brought the cream Nutrix his first facial treatments on the market. Chemist Pierre Velón succeeded with a previously unknown method to mix natural proteins and waxes in water and oil. The then enriched with cream perfume became a best seller and is available today. In 1938 the first Lancôme lipstick collection was launched with the scent of roses under the name Rose de France. There followed many other perfumes, make-up and skin care products that are available in 68 countries by 1955. In February 1942, Armand Petitjean founded the Ecole Lancôme house, a school for beauticians and ambassadors of the brand.
