Land of Israel

Eretz Israel, the land of Israel (Hebrew ארץ ישראל ) is a biblical reference to the state of the Jews or Hebrews. It was taken up again since the beginning of political Zionism in the 19th century and is also used in the modern state of Israel often.

Today this area is often occupied Holy Land with the name. This nomenclature has historically been extremely popular, especially by the time of the Crusades. Bibelkundlich the term Eretz Israel is clearly not the name equated Holy Land, but rather with Promised Land translate. This refers to the Bible passages where the divine promise comes up, to give the land to Abraham and his descendants, for the first time in the first book of Genesis (Gen 15,18 EU).
