Wursten is an integrated municipality in the district of Cuxhaven and covers a large part of the historic landscape Wursten. The area of the velvet municipality covers an area of ​​116.96 km ² and had at 31 December 2004 9,730 inhabitants.

Geography

Geographical Location

The Samtgemeinde Wursten located directly on the North Sea coast between Bremerhaven and Cuxhaven. It consists primarily of marshland. The municipality lies between 0 and 21 m above sea level. NN.

Wursten is historically part of Friesland. Unlike the Frisian dialects in North Frisia or Saterland the wurtfriesische language in Wursten is extinct, but could last longer because of the remoteness of the county of than in most other areas of eastern Friesland.

Samtgemeinde outline

The Samtgemeinde Wursten was formed on 1 March 1974, consists of the seven member municipalities Cappel, Nord Dorum, Midlum, Misselwarden, Mulsum, Padingbüttel and North Wremen.

The Samtgemeinde merged on 1 January 2015 the municipality of North wood and then forms the unitary community Wurster North Sea coast.

Coat of arms

Split of gold and green, on the right half, rotbewehrter, black eagle, left under a silver wave beams seven golden shamrocks arranged 2/2/2/1. The half eagle that is found in many Frisian coat of arms, points to the sovereign rights of the Frisian country sausages, the wave bar to the rivers and ditches. The green area represents the march. The shamrocks are symbols of agriculture. The number indicates the merger of the seven churches to Samtgemeinde Wursten.

Community partnerships

Since May 5, 2005 is with the city Ploeren (France) in Brittany, near Vannes, a partnership. A sponsorship is with the 3rd Flying Squadron of Naval Air Wing 3 Graf Zeppelin in the north woods since 1 May 2003.

  • All seven municipalities have standing on a mound churches. The Romanesque and Gothic, former fortified churches date from the 12th or 13th century. The St. Peter and Paul Church in Cappel came from the 13th century and after a fire 1815/16 by a neoclassical hall structure replaced, including old parts and the west tower.
  • The St Urbanus Church in Dorum dates from the 13th century.

  • The St. Catherine's Church in Misselwarden is a single- brick building from the 13th century with a square west tower ( 1500).

  • The St. Matthew's Church in Padingbüttel was built in the late 13th century as a hall building with recessed choir. Remarkably the Gothic winged altar ( around 1480 ).
  • The Willehadi Church in Wremen is a fortified church dating from around 1200 and the oldest church in the country sausages.

Economy and Transport

Wremen and Dorum are railway stations on the railway line Bremerhaven - Cuxhaven. The tickets of the Community tariff of the transport association Bremen / Lower Saxony is applied.

The Samtgemeinde can be achieved in a north-south direction on the A27 motorway, connecting points north woods and Neuenwalde and on the road L 135 of Cuxhaven or Bremerhaven. From Holßel the L 119 leads west to Dorum.
