Landerneau

Landerneau ( Landerne Breton ) is a commune in the Finistère department in Bretagne 15,148 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011). Brest is situated 18 km south-west, about 180 km east-southeast of Rennes and Paris, about 480 km to the east. The city is located on the estuary of the Elorn that is to Landerneau navigable.

The next departures of the highways E50 (Rennes - Brest) and E 60 (Nantes - Brest) are located a few miles north or south of the village. Landerneau has a regional train station near railroad tracks Brest - Rennes - Paris and Brest - Quimper - Nantes.

In Brest is the nearest regional airport.

Attractions

The Pont de Rohan on the Elorn is one of the few still existing built-up with houses bridges in Europe. The first mention of this bridge dates from the year 1336, in 1510 it was built of bricks again.

Landerneau is connected by twinned with:

  • Hünfeld in Hesse, since 1968
  • Caernarfon in Wales, since 1992

In 2011 the city got together with their German partner city Hünfeld the Europe Prize of Europe for their outstanding efforts to the European integration.
