Landon Carter Haynes

Landon Carter Haynes ( born December 2, 1816 in Elizabethton, Carter County, Tennessee, † February 17, 1875 in Memphis, Tennessee) was an American politician.

Haynes drew in 1847 for the first time in the Tennessee General Assembly and became a member of the State Senate. From 1849 to 1851 he sat as an MP in the House of Representatives from Tennessee; During this time he also served as Speaker of the Parliament chamber. After the outbreak of the Civil War he served from 1862 to 1865 as a senator in the first and second Konföderiertenkongress.

After his death in 1875 he was buried in the Elmwood Cemetery. However, he was reburied in 1902 at the Jackson Cemetery. He was an uncle of Nathaniel Edwin Harris, who served as governor of Georgia from 1915 to 1917.
