History

The station was taken on July 1, 1858 in operation, as the line from Chur to Rheineck went into operation. He lived during the construction of the track a change of ownership, as the Southeastern Railway, which had begun to build the track, went on 1 May 1858 in the possession of the United Swiss Railways ( VSB) over. The station was then almost in the open field far outside the actual Hauptsiedelung the community Igis. Nearby, a few factories, taking undue advantage of the water power of the river country were Quart.

Since 1859, with the opening of the line Sargans -Rapperswil - Ruti (ZH), were trains to Zurich possible, however, to take a detour through the Glatt valley and had to navigate a hairpin in Rapperswil. In 1875 the left bank Zürichseebahn was put into operation, which direct trains to Zurich were possible.

To interchange the station was in 1889, when the narrow gauge railway land quart Davos AG (LD) was opened, which ran from Landquart to Davos. From this line later, the Rhaetian Railway was built. Since it is a narrow gauge railway, the goods had to be transhipped and also switched in country Quart. At the same time a workshop was built here at the end point of the LD, from which emerged the main workshop of the Rhaetian Railway. Since 1896, Churchill is also accessible on a narrow track.

The accident claimed one life. Due to a misunderstanding, the entry signal for the test train was set to red, although the braking force for a break was not enough. The only two years old locomotive Re 4 /4 II 11282 of Versuchszugs burned out and had to be canceled.

With the opening of Vereinatunnel 1999 through the RhB, the station was more important. Because from that time led the fastest way from the lowlands to the Engadine overland Quart and no longer via Chur. With the implementation of the railway in 2000 the link between SBB and RhB has been improved.

The station became a major freight transshipment point, because here the goods between the RhB and SBB are reloaded. Also, many industrial businesses settled in the vicinity of this station. From here, the sidings SBB Zizers be served, with the cement plant and the transshipment hall for drinks (eg water Vals ) provide large tonnage.

The sales room in the station building would be removed with the new building on the other side of the RhB tracks.
