Landser (Haut-Rhin)

Landser is a commune with 1561 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Haut-Rhin in the Alsace region. It belongs to the district Mulhouse, on the Canton Sierentz and community association Pays de Sierentz.

History

The local marketplace first appears in 1246. Around 1300 soldiers was the seat of government of the same name. Multiple of the town was destroyed. 1929 there an agricultural school was founded.

Church of the Assumption

The church was first mentioned in 1269. The church tower dates from the last quarter of the 16th century, the tower roof was changed in the early 20th century. The nave has been renewed in 1774-1776. The interior of the church was renovated in 1988 until 1990. There are numerous paintings and sculptures, including a Pietà on the altar from the 17th century, in the right-hand side chapel a shrine with relics of St. Justin. The organ dates from 1789.

Capuchin Monastery of St. Alphonsus

In the mid-17th century by the Brothers Hug, the overseers of the rule soldier, erected a convent attracted 1659 Capuchin monks. During the French Revolution the monks were expelled. The buildings were sold as public property, but fell into disrepair over the next few years. 1842 acquired the Redemptorist the building. They put repaired and built a new chapel. 1873 joined the German authorities, the monastery and so it was again for many years yet. In 1929, the monastery was given to the Redemptorist sisters. It made ​​some changes, including the main building were raised by one floor. The Congregation of the Sisters of the Redemptorists ( Ordo Sanctissimi Redemptoris ) settled down in 1931 in the monastery. They worked there with the exception of the war years to the present day and deal next to the prayer with the production of wafers and holy images, with bookbinding and gardening. The just north of the monastery at the location Ibenbach mill ( monastery Muehl ) has long been out of service and now part of the farm of Don Bosco.
