The Landtag of Saarland is the Saarland state parliament based in Saarbrücken.
History
After the First World War, the Saar area of the German Empire was dissolved. Between 1920 and 1935, the provincial government existed as a representation of the people and thus as a predecessor of the Landtag of Saarland. During the period of National Socialism was no representation of the people. After the German defeat in World War II, the Saarland was a French protectorate. On May 23, 1947, a group of 20 persons Constitutional Commission was established. This commission was in the tradition of the appointees Diets of the other provinces. On 5 October 1947, a Constituent Assembly was elected. This occurred after the adoption of the Constitution in the role of the first parliament.
The Diet convenes in 1866 for the Saarbrücken casino company built building in the Franz- Josef- Röder -Straße.

Payment
The members of the state receive a parliamentary allowance. In February 2013 noted the state audit that "more than 70 percent " of the deputies were unconstitutional allowances for the exist no legal basis.
