Lane Smith

Lane Smith ( born April 29, 1936 in Memphis, Tennessee; † 13 June 2005 in Northridge in Los Angeles, California ) was an American actor.

Career

Smith studied at New York's Actors Studio and took on small roles in the theater before it as a character actor in such films as Network, V - The Final Battle, Red Dawn, Air America or Mighty Ducks - The Super team achieved a greater awareness.

Television audiences he is best known as Daily Planet editor in chief Perry White in the Superman series - Lois & Clark known.

As a theater actor he made himself especially in the productions of Glengarry Glen Ross and One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest a name.

For his portrayal of Richard Nixon in the miniseries The case of Nixon in 1990 he was nominated for the Television Award Golden Globe Award.

Lane Smith was suffering from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
