The Lange Antares 20E is a single-seat, self-launching motor glider with an electric drive the company Lange Aviation. She is the first motor glider mass-produced this kind, the delivery of customer machines began in 2004.

Construction

Drive

The drive system of the Antares 20E is based on lithium - ion battery. The DC voltage is supplied to the motor through a current regulator. The brushless DC motor can be collapsed into the body and drives a pressure screw.

Accumulator

Integrated in the wing are 72 batteries, the operating voltage is 268 V. The battery charging time is 9 hours and is done by an on-board charger that can be connected to a 230 V or 110 V socket. In cold climates, the battery is heated to achieve the full capability. Battery life is 1500 charge cycles, then are still 80 % of capacity. Regardless of a battery replacement after ten years is necessary. Since the battery type is also used in American military programs, he is contractually available until 2031. The stored energy is about 14 kWh. The battery charger can submit the current charging status by SMS. Also may be performed via the GSM modem remote maintenance.

Interpretation

The structure has a wing with a laminar profile, which is suitable for speeds up to 245 km / h. The flaps can be driven at high speeds to -3 °. There are winglets on the wing tips. The wing flaps are designed as flaperons. To facilitate the landing are Schempp-Hirth type airbrakes integrated into the wing. There comes a T-tail on the application.

Suspension as a spring-loaded hydraulically and extendable and equipped with a disc brake and a steerable Hauptfahrwerksrad tail wheel is used. The rim diameter is 5 inches. The spring / damper elements can absorb substantial energy shares in the event of a hard landing. The radome has a crumple zone, while the remaining cabin is made as a rigid frame.
