The Langenberg, with peak location in the Sauerland district in North Rhine -Westphalia, close to the Waldeck- Frankenberg in Hesse, with 843.2 m above sea level. NHN is the highest mountain of the Rothaargebirge, North Rhine -Westphalia and the northwestern part of Germany.

Geography

Location

The Langenberg is located on the border of Westphalia North Hesse at the suture line of the Upper Sauerland and Upland with the Hessian Diemelsee Nature Park on the eastern side, between Bruchhausen ( Olsberg ) in the north- northwest, Willingen in the northeast and low-field ( Winterberg) in the southwest. Its highest peak is loud German base map in Westphalia about 10 m southwest of the Hessian border.

On the southwestern flank of the Langeberg the Ruhr inflow Burbecke and on its northern flank of greed Koppenbach inflow originates Raken. East of the mountains in the south-north direction is passed from the upper reaches of the Hopp corner, into which a little from the valley southeast of the mountain located " The Basement " incoming stream flows into this area.

Neighboring mountains - with the height in meters ( m) above mean sea level ( MSL ): Hopper head ( 805 m ) in the north, middle mountain ( 801 m; beyond the Hopp corner ) to the east, Hegekopf ( 842.9 m; beyond the Hopp corner) in the east-southeast, Hopper head ( 832.3 m) in the southeast, Clemens Berg ( 839.1 m) in the south-southwest and on the Sternrodt ( 789.4 m ) in the west.

South of the mountain are the way junctions "Upper Burbecker Place " and " Lower Burbecker place". West past the summit passes - a historic landmark passing - in north-south direction of the Rothaarsteig.

The Langenberg is little else but mostly heavily wooded in its dome-shaped summit region where spreading east, a high heath.

Mountain height and peak area

Often the Kahle Asten near Winterberg is referred to as the highest mountain in the region in the media erroneously. However, this is "only " 841.9 m in height, but is much better known than the Langenberg because of its weather station and mainly because of the hotel restaurants at Asten tower with viewing platform at 862 meters above sea level. Second highest peak in the area is - after Langenberg - with 842.9 m of the Hessian Hegekopf near Willingen; the highest accessible point in the Rothaargebirge is 875 m high viewing platform of standing on dortigem Ettelsberg Hochheideturm tower.

About 12 meters to the southeast of the summit there is a marker at which a metal plate with the inscription " Langenberg 843 m above sea level - Highest mountain is mounted in N R W ". In addition, there is a wooden cross on the summit since 2010.

Around 15 meters southeast of the German base map recorded with 843.2 meters high mountain summit and about 20 m southwest of the aforementioned national border to 843.1 m height a trigonometric point of the German main triangle mesh.

Nature Spatial allocation

The Langenberg heard in the physiographic feature unit group Süder Bergland ( number 33) in the main unit Rothaargebirge ( with Sauerland ) ( 333) and in the subunit Winterberg Highlands ( 333.5 ) for natural space Langenberg ( 333.58 ).

Reserves

On and on the Langenberg located in Westphalia, the nature reserve Rakenbachtal ( CDDA-Nr. 329 585; 2001 identified and the 38 ha ha ) in the north, the NSG Hoppecke source streams ( CDDA-Nr. 389 788; 2008; 17 ha) in the southeast and south, the NSG alder ( CDDA-Nr. 329 353; 2001; 2 ha ) in the south, the NSG Burbecketal ( CDDA-Nr. 389 690; 2008; 10 ha) in the southwest and the NSG Medebachtal and headwaters ( CDDA-Nr. 329517; 2001, 50 ha) in the northwest. Also on Westphalian page are the conservation area Olsberg ( CDDA-Nr. 345 105; 2004; 79.52 km ²) and, south of it, the LSG subsection of the town of Winterberg ( CDDA-Nr. 325127; 1994; 75.32 km ²).
